Here we go. the first blog about our travels.

We left Heathrow on Friday 1st of May, and arrived in Hong Kong 12 hours later after flying over loads of different countries. The route on the map when we started took us directly over Russia, but that didnt happen. We went towards Ukraine, then Turkey thaen over the caspian sea and eventulay we went over China, direct to Hong Kong.

Hong Kong airport is massive, with train taking you from where you get off your plain to the main terminal. we managed to find our way through and eventually found the taxi rank.

The taxi was very old and worn out. the seats were ripped and the boot was held down with a bit of rope.

We went about 30 minutes in the taxi and got to our hotel in Kowloon in two pieces. Wilma and me.

We were on the 5th floor, and the room was very nice. When I looked at the floor numbers on the lift there was no 4th or 14th floor in the hotel. we found out later that 4 is considered unlucky in Chinese culture.

As it was getting late we went for a walk along the seafront. there were lots of men fishing, and it turned out to be the local joggers main route too.

We found some friends along the way.

When we got back to the hotel the retaurant opposite was where we decided to eat, and we both had Wagu bergurs. they were topped with a fried egg, and were absolutly brilliant. If the food is like that all trip I will be very happy,

We didnt take a photo, but it was vey much like this one i found on the internet

Day two started with a ferry ride from Hung Hom ton Central pier Hong Kong Island. Yes that's right, Wilma was on a boat. And she did it 4 times in the two days we were there.

We were then on the BIG BUS tour of Hong Kong Island. We were on the green route which took us to some of the greener areas,

We got off in Stanley at the far south of the island. It was a lovely place with lots of shops and a nice market. although we didnt buy anything it was a nice break off the bus. As we got back on the bus Wilma said "The sky looks very dark over there it might rain." The bus had gone about half a mile and the driver stopped and handed out ponchos to everyone on the open upper deck

within 10 minutes, the heavens opened, and everyone was soaked to the skin so it was back to the hotel.

Day 3 in Hong Kong we took our still damp coats with us.

Again we took the ferry to central Hong Kong ferry termal and another trip on the BIG BUS. This time we took the red rout round the built up area of Hong Kong. At the next to last stop we got off the bus to go on the feni cular railway. It took 8 minutes to get to the top of the railway. it was that steep that the buildings on the way up looked as if they were bending. At the top we had great views over the city.

Views from the top of the railway

Things at the top of the railway

It rained again that night and we went to Pizza Hut for our tea.

The next day we were on our way back to the airport for our flight to Brisbane.

There were a couple of people to send us off.
